SOCOM and get it

Yesterday I got SOCOM: US Navy SEALs. That's right, the one with the headset. But now I have supressed the urge to say “thankyou, drive through” its actually amazing. Its mainly used to direct the other members of your team (the voice recognition is spot on), but the in-game instructions all come through the headset (and not the TV), making it oddly realistic. Try it and you'll see what I mean, it adds a whole new depth to the game.

Although its supposed to be “pioneering online gaming for PS2”, its got enough going for it in single player that I don't feel the urge to buy a network adapter. Besides, then I'd need to get broadband too.

Also, Mark - remember the headsets you, me and Neo used to wear to play Delta Force? The SOCOM one doesn't look at all like those. Which, I think you'll agree, is a good thing.

Yeah, those were a bit 'flamboyant', weren't they?

Sounds cool though. Voice recognition has come on a long way since I last tried it (and spent hours trying to get my PC to recognise even the most basic command). We even have a foot-high R2-D2 in the WebSelect office which trundles about and responds to voice commands!

Good post title, by the way.

Thanks. It was either that or “SOCOM all ye faithful”, but it's not Christmas yet. Speaking of which, I will be in Cornwall over the festive season, so we'll have to go out and get heinous.

That R2-D2 sounds cool - what commands does it respond to?

Loads of stuff. You can tell him to guard, go on patrol, shine his light, and if you say 'Darth Vader' he gives a frightened little bleep...
