I've just been messing about with "Google Earth". It's absolutely amazing. Fortunately, we seem to be in a “hi-res” region - I can tell what cars are parked in the drive (but only by colour).
Have a look at the “sightseeing” folder; if you double click a destination listed, you “fly” there - could be good for your travelling site Mr P, you'll be able to see everywhere you went.
There are so many cool tricks you can do with it, but I'll let you find them out yourself. It'd only spoil it if I told you now.

Mad, isn't it?
I'm just working with integrating Google Maps into a web site as we speak - it's pretty incredible! It uses the same imagery as Google Earth but not the 3D stuff.
The satellite imagery will improve over time as well... looking forward to being able to see Plymouth properly.
