The wonders of modern technology

I bought a toaster yesterday.

I've never had a toaster before. Ever. Even my parents only got one a couple of months ago, so ever since I was old enough to cook for myself I've had to grill my toast. Grilling is always a bit hit and miss, especially with Mum's cooker. You check the toast, it's fine; you check the toast again quarter of a second later: it's burnt.

It's really weird that with all the gadgets I possess, I never thought to buy something so simple, but there you go. It even has a little pop up bit for warming croissants on top...

I used most of my lunch hour to write this. WHAT'S WRONG WITH ME?

I have a similar toaster - I like to use that pop-up bit to let the butter melt in to the toast while the next round is “in”. There's even a button for when you put frozen bread in - I guess it extends the toasting duration for that round. Its spot on too, it comes out the same as normal bread would on a normal cycle.

(PS Have you had a race between the kettle and the toaster yet? Gives breakfast that competitive edge...)

Appliance racing: we've only just progressed into this new-fangled world of electric kettles and toasters. It'll be a while before I build up the confidence to use both at the same time...

However, in terms of features, our toasters have nothing on this.

That is unbeleivable! I take it you have looked through the rest of that site? Go on, shoe-horn a PC in to absolutely anything.

Yeah, some of the stuff on there is incredible. I was thinking of getting one of those boards, so I could build a tiny PC which would run emulators and could be plugged into the TV.

You could have a SNES, Megadrive, N64, and a load of old arcade machines in one box... with a gamepad it'd be just like playing the real things!

Which leads me to ask: can you get adaptors to be able to use an original joypad on your PC? Ideally, I'd like to use my dualshock2 (to play Postal2), but even to get a Megadrive or SNES joypad adapter to play their respective emulators would be sweet. Especially if it was to USB too.

You can, but I don't know any specific sites offhand... just try a search for PC joypad adaptors and see what comes up...
