iTunes Rivals

I'm sure everyone's heard about the new HMV (F.A.Q) and Virgin (F.A.Q) download stores - I'm a big fan of Apple's iTunes myself, but there are quite a few artists who don't feature in the iTunes Music Store, and so I was keen to see what they had to offer.

First impressions are not good. In fact, they're very, very bad. It's almost like both companies have just rushed out a product really quickly in order to make a quick buck - surely not?

Let's look at the list of cons here:

Even iTunes is fairly draconian, but at least their limits are rather more sensible.

When are record companies going to sort themselves out and realise that the reason people are illegally downloading is because they don't want to pay money for music that eventually stops working? That's not too unreasonable is it?

It's time to stop cocking about with 10 different music formats and 20 different types of DRM, and just let people pay to download music, which they can then do what they like with (like a CD). Only when that happens will piracy slow down.

And to top it all, HMV's FAQ page is just one massive image of the text, written in a small, blurry font - nice and accessible there guys.
