Here's someone else who finds driving a leedle bit stressful.
Everything in there has happened to me (and you too, probably)... just substitute the word 'left' for the word 'right' to translate the experiences to the UK. Enjoy.

Old people - it just shouldn't be allowed. Re-test at retirement and every 5 years thereafter.
I heard a rumour that in Germany if you fail your driving test 5 times, you aren't allowed any more attempts - but you get a free bus pass for life. I also heard another rumour that 1 in 3 cars on the road are illegal for some reason, be it no MoT, no tax, no insurance, unlicensed driver, etc.

Sometimes you just have to laugh when you see a 90-year old granny hunched over the steering wheel, squinting out because she can hardly see.
It's when you follow her out onto a dual carriageway and have to merge with 80-90mph traffic at 15mph (because she can't look in her wing mirror and move forward at the same time) that you realise it's actually quite dangerous...
That driving test idea seems like a good one; that's assuming drivers actually bother to take the test in the first place, which judging by the standard of driving (and the amount of accidents) in and around Newton Abbot, most haven't.
It's a good job I enjoy my job, that's all I can say
