For a while there I thought I might be getting too old for consoles, but it was just a passing phase... the new consoles on the horizon are looking (well, sounding) good.
I'm a bit of a Nintendo fan, so my money will probably go on their new console, which apparently plays all the games released for older Nintenndo consoles, of which I have many... it looks cool too if the preview images are accurate (see images attached to this post).
However, the new XBox and PS3 are looking astoundingly powerful - it's gonna be a tough choice ![]()

Being a massive Sony fanboy, I am probably going to go for the PS3 and not even look at the competition. It may not be as powerful as the XBox360, but its packed with other features. Seriously though, the main reason is the inevitable next GTA. So I probably won't get one til that's released. Mind you, I'm not sure about the PS3 controllers.
I also think its quite shallow that Micro$oft haven't called their new console XBox2 - apparently it would make it seem a model below the PS3. So XBox360 makes it sound like its not a model number, but they get a 3 in there anyway.

Those PS3 controllers look ultra-gay (to use the terminology of a 5 year old)
I still think the Gamecube controller is one of the best ever made - it fits the hands perfectly, has plenty of buttons and doesn't give you cramp when you totally ignore the recommendations on how long you're supposed to play without taking a break.
The PS2 dual-shock controllers are quite nice too though...

I was always impressed that Nintendo made their own wireless controller for the GC, mainly because 3rd-party peripherals are always crap. Well, maybe not crap, but they never feel the same as the official equivalent. Why Sony didn't make a wireless DS2 is beyond me - I'd have gladly shelled out for two of those instead of two of these.
Anyway, at least it appears wirefree controllers are standard for this generation of consoles - I've only seen it confirmed for XBox360 and PS3, but I'd be surprised if the Nintendo didn't follow. And as its RF rather than IR, you can keep the doors shut on the TV stand.
Glad to see there's some “future-proofing” going on too: the PS3 has HDMI sockets (two of them, for some reason).
