More things to worry about

With the media constantly reporting on war, terrorist attacks, nuclear threats, and the fact that nearly anything you eat, drink or come into contact with is supposed to cause cancer, it's a fairly worrying existence as it is.

But in case someone out there is harbouring the apparently insane belief that humanity might just survive the next few centuries, have a read through this Wired News Article on Nanotechnology. Here's a quote:

“People have been trafficking in nanotech nightmares since the term was introduced into the public lexicon in the 1980s by then-MIT researcher Eric Drexler. Like proteins and enzymes in our bodies, human-made, molecule-size machines will be able to build just about anything -- including more of themselves, Drexler postulated.

The fear is that they'll never stop building. The world could be covered in a nanobot swarm, a semi-living 'gray goo.'”

Why are we so obsessed with scaring ourselves?
