Gadget Accumulation

I'm currently thinking about getting a wireless card for my laptop, so I can access the web from the comfort of my sofa without trailing a ten foot long Ethernet cable across the floor.

It seems like a good idea, but then I think, do I really need it? Do I really need any more stuff?

My bedroom is a maze of cables and humming fans. I have two PC's, a laptop, a mobile phone, PDA, stereo, digital camera, printer, hubs, routers, keyboard, MIDI gear; the list goes on. Yet there's always something cooler or smaller than the stuff I already have…

I think I need to join a support group or something.

Apparently it keeps your hot beverage at a suitable temperature for an hour and a half.

I don't speak much japanese, but I think I've figured it out - look at the graph (bottom left of the linked page) and the legend therein. Red is obviously “With the thing switched on”, and blue is “With the thing switched off”. The pink region is probably “Tea still tastes good”.

500mW, which is the maximum output of a USB port, appears to be only enough to reduce the cooling rate, rather than raise (or even maintain) temperature. Perhaps a “dual channel” USB mug (with a whole Watt of power) will be enough keep the tea at temperature indefinitely - USB ports always seem to come in pairs anyhow. I think a cup redesign would be in order too - thermos-style insulation on the bottom and sides and a narrow top. I would imagine.

But at least its mac compatible, they'll be sure to sell loads now .

I've got about 20 USB ports on my PC... I think I could probably run a USB kettle.

This is cool, albeit slightly less 'out there'...

Very nice. Handy too. I'd never have to worry about losing my Zip Disk again.

If we're talking cool gadgets, check out the styling on this.

Silver finish... Blue backlit display... Indecipherable remote...

That's obviously an import.

Going back a few comments, those USB storage watches are remarkably cheaper than I thought they would be. I think I might invest. Seriously, I can't risk losing a Zip Disk - one of them became corrupted a few months ago, I lost a whole heap of downloads. I mean work. Thats right, lots of work. Ahem. I was thinking of getting an mp3 player since that would double up as a storage device too, but they are quite pricey. (The i-Bead is amazing, one of the lads here has one - the headphones are woven in to the neckstrap and they come out by your collarbone with just enough wire to get to your ears. Tidy.)

About the USB powered gadgets. How long till We see USB sex toys? If Sony can make a PS2 controller vibrate, just think what they could do for the sex industry.
